Invention is an engineering solution that possesses novelty, practical adaptability and utility for the economical activity. To be admitted as invention the solution should have the inventive level, i.e. it should not be evident to the current level of specialists’ knowledge. At present the following objects of invention can be admitted: device, means, matter, and microorganism’s culture, cell culture of plants and animals and also new usage of the known earlier device, means, matter and culture.

Invention is the object of the industrial property. The rights for invention are protected by patent law. In accordance with the law the deviser gets sole right for his invention usage. This right is limited by certain time period and also by some other terms. This right can be uttered by the deviser to another person. The right for invention appears at the moment of its state registration. The document that proves right for invention is a patent.

Patent is a guard document that certifies sole right, authorship and priority of the invention, utility model or industrial design. The patents’ period of validity depends on the patented object and makes up 5 to 25 years. Patent is issued by the state authority, in the Republic of Belarus it is the National Center of the Intellectual Property (NCIP).
